Historia

Musoma Regional Referral Hospital is situated in Musoma Municipality. It has a bed capacity of 300 with 13 wards. The hospital serves about 1.9 million people. Its construction started on 12th May 1932 and was officially opened on 28th January 1933 by Mrs E.C.Richard, a District Commissioner for Musoma by that time. Maternity ward was the first building to be constructed with and the bed capacity at that time was 12. This hospital started as a health centre but due to the increasing population and demand for health care, the infrastructure was improved to the current status. At the moment there is very limited space for expansion of the hospital, thus The Regional Secretariat decided to start developing Mwalimu Nyerere Medical Centre at Kwangwa to become a Regional Referral Hospital for Mara.

RRH Profile Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Regional Referral Hospital is located at Kwangwa Street, Kigera ward in Musoma Municipality. It has a bed capacity of 300 with 10 wards. The hospital serves about 2.3 million people. Its construction started in 1975 by conducting feasibility study, the official construction started in 1980.The hospital has three semidetached blocks (A,B and C), construction of the hospital goes under 4 phases until the Ministry of Health take over the supervision of RRHs was in phase 4. Currently Block C and part of Block B is complete and therefore Musoma Regional Referral Hospital shifted services on to Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Regional Referral Hospital on 1st July 2023. Now Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Regional Referral Hospital acts as the Regional Referral Hospital for Mara Region.
